A food and heritage tour of Pampanga

Early this month, I joined a group, Culture Shock, that went on a tour of Pampanga. Since Pampanga is known for its cuisine, we visited places with authentic Pampanga dishes, plus churches with rich cultural heritage. I will write a longer blog about this but I just want to tell you just now, that the trip was all worth it!

One of the things that impressed me was the visit to the San Guillermo Church of Bacolor, Pampanga. Not only does it have a very interesting story of its being buried by lahar, but I found so many interesting religious statues there. This is the only church where I found a tableaux about a dying St. Joseph with the statues of the Virgin Mary and Jesus plus an angel beside the bed. Really awesome!

I suggest that you check out the tours scheduled by Culture Shock if you are interested in enriching your knowledge about our own cultural heritage. It is a different kind of trip. Here is a link to their site: http://cultureshockph.wordpress.com/calendar/
